The Judge: Maintain high standards without turning them against yourself
How to hold yourself to high standards.
(without turning them against yourself)
Everyone has a Judge inside of them that self-evaluates, makes corrections, and maintains standards.
People draw on it to develop discernment, hold themselves to meaningful standards, and recognize when something genuinely needs improvement.
But when people let it run unchecked, guilt takes over and self-criticism becomes relentless.
They judge others with contempt.
They can spiral into shame over ordinary mistakes.
Sometimes they compare their interior struggles to everyone else’s polished exterior.
Often, they tell themselves they’re just holding themselves accountable.
In those cases, the Judge has long since stopped helping and started punishing.
(and it’s usually the echoes of the parent’s judgement).
